First Nations Innovation, a research and outreach project, started in September 2006 and will be ongoing at least until September 2017. (VideoCom is the former project name). The project is a partnership with three First Nation organizations and one university:
•Keewaytinook Okimakanak (including KO-KNET and the KO Research Institute)
•Atlantic Canada’s First Nation Helpdesk / Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey
•The First Nations Education Council
•The University of New Brunswick
Our research is exploring broadband communications in remote and rural First Nation communities in Canada. We are also exploring new ways to work together in participatory research when partners are separated by vast distances. The project is always seeking ways to make the research as collaborative and participative as possible.
